Sometimes life is like monkey bars

Two months ago we sold most of our stuff in a garage sale. By stuff, I mean things like our couch, tables, chairs, bunk beds, dressers, toys, freezer, television, washer, dryer etc.  Pretty much everything! We kept our clothes, some kitchenware, family memorabilia, and one box of toys for each kid (but we didn’t keep Spunky, our little pooch, who now lives in Kentucky).

We moved out of our house on June 18th and a tenant moved in July 1st. Then, we moved in with Heidi’s parents. The kids have a room in the basement and Heidi and I have a bedroom and private bath at the end of the hallway. A pretty good deal. Her parents are more than gracious putting up with us for two and a half months (THANK YOU, Dick and Cheryl).

In two weeks, September 6th, we’ll drive to Tijuana, Mexico, and set up shop at the Tijuana Christian Mission. TCM is an orphanage Heidi and I have worked with for over 20 years. We know and love the staff there. We love the kids who grew up there. And the desire of our heart is to be more a part of God’s work there.

We’re taking an extended trip, September through early December. We’ll work to raise funds for the orphanage ($50,000 is our goal), partner alongside the staff, and love the new generation rising up at TCM.  The really, really neat thing is we get to do this as a family. We’ll minister together as a family, learn together as a family, and experience Jesus together as a family.

I’ll commute back and forth to my business in Ohio during this time while Heidi and the kids remain in Mexico. Not a perfect situation but something we’re willing to try.

Sometimes life is like monkey bars, you have to let go in order to move forward. We’re definitely letting go.
