(In other words, lest I sound like I was complaining in the last post, here are a bunch of good things we didn’t see coming…)
1. Went to the beach in San Diego on Saturday. Beautiful weather and water! Had a great, relaxing day!
2. Went to a sports bar/restaurant after and they were showing the OSU game on Big Ten Network! Did not expect that ! And the food was fantastic!
3. We have a friend who pastors a church plant in San Diego and we went to his church Sunday morning. I admit, I often zone out during sermons, but in this one, his very first point resonated with me. “A place of uncertainty is where faith comes into play.” That is my paraphrase but reminded me that as I feel overwhelmed with the needs of the kids here and don’t know what to do or where to start, it is a great place to have some faith that God will lead me (and us.)
4. After church we went to lunch with the pastor’s family and another couple. The other couple just came back from 3 years of working in Romanian orphanages, so they shared a little of their experiences. It was a fun lunch and we are hoping to be involved with that church on the American side.
5. Martha (director and matriarch) decided we needed some Spanish lessons, so she is arranging for some of the older kids and staff to do these. Hurray! We need them!
6. Our family has another room! They were able to combine 2 storage rooms into one and gave us the empty one so now we have two rooms for our family to live in instead of one. Now we can put all of our stuff at one site instead of half here, half there, and we just have a little breathing room. We didn’t ask for it, but joyfully accepted it!
So… Thankful to God and our friends here for these unexpected things. On to our week!
